Year 5 enjoyed an exciting trip to Butser Ancient Farm, where they stepped back in time to experience life as a Saxon! During the visit, the children took part in a fascinating tour and learned about Saxon homes, discussing why they were built in particular ways and how they suited the needs of the people who lived in them. They also had the opportunity to try their hand at some traditional Saxon activities. The children worked together to use clunch to build a wall, discovering the materials and techniques used in the past. They carefully carved chalk, creating their own designs, and practised writing with quills, experiencing what it was like to write before pens and pencils existed. The children were engaged, enthusiastic, and full of curiosity throughout the day. It was a wonderful hands-on learning experience that brought history to life and helped deepen their understanding of Saxon Britain.
